POSTED MARCH 1, 2012

It certainly has been a month of lots of "love" in the Kindergarten and First Grade Classroom! We have many visual reminders about Valentine's Day, (including Mrs. Williams' red lipstick) but it's also a great time to remind ourselves about God's great love for us! We had one of our favorite Bible stories-Zaccheus. We enjoy the song but we really like it because we get to pretend that our desk is the tree that Zaccheus climbed up in order to see Jesus.

We also enjoyed picking out books to read, sign and then donating to a reading basket for the school's silent auction. It was also fun picking out pictures to put on a lap desk to go along with our basket. We learned many new facts about our first President, George Washington. We all decided that it would be a very hard job! Our class was part of the "America's Biggest Storytime" program. This year we enjoyed listening to Tim Tebow, a well known Christian football player for the Denver Broncos, as he read the book, "Green Eggs and Ham" on the computor. And of course, if you read the book, you need to eat green eggs and ham, which we did! The food looked funny, but it tasted really good!

We have mastered learning the Books of the Old Testament and are working on the Books of the New Testament. It's a big assignment, but we can do it! We are also working on learning Psalm 23 as we go over the meaning of the words and what it means to have Jesus as our Shepherd. We are also learning that we can be "dumb" sheep sometimes!

Our Valentine's Party was so much fun. We thank Kendra Hubener for all her hard work! She had everyone divide with a partner and find different clues in the Family Life Center, to answer the questions on our sheet. Then we had delicioius "pink" dirt pie and were able to open our many Valentine's that were exchanged.

We had a Field Trip to Companion Animal Hospital in Wichita. We want to thank Dr. Tammy Truesdell-Byers and her staff for giving us such a great tour of their vet clinic. It was interesting watching them take care of the different animals. They also packed us wonderful treat bags to take home with us. We ate lunch at MacDonald's, which is always a fun experience. While the students were eating, we had 2 different adults come and comment about what a well behaved group we had and how wonderful it was to listen to them pray before they ate. As a teacher, I know this is one of the most important things that we can do as a Christian School-Pray together as a class! What a wonderful gift!
