UPDATED MARCH 1, 2012

We began February by reading I Can Read with My Eyes Shut. We talked about our eyes; how they are different from each other’s and what we use them for. Then we read Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go Now! as we talked about ways to travel and places to go; most children mentioned grandparents’ as the favorite place to go. After that we read And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street while learning about our five senses. The things we imagined seeing on 6th street would amaze you! Finally, we read Maybe You Should Fly a Jet! Maybe You Should be a Vet! and talked about all of the different jobs people have and what they do.

We began the month with the letter R and made red R’s. Then we moved on to K and filled a K with kisses. We followed that with A and made some apple A’s. Next we learned V and made V’s with valentines. We worked on recognizing both the uppercase and lowercase, as well as discovering what sound it makes by reading some alphabet books and making a list of things that have that sound at the beginning.

Other things that we focused on included numbers that come before, after, and in between. We also compared numbers and sets to decide which is more and less. The children took a lot of measurements to determine length, weight, and capacity. We introduced money; what it is and what we use it for. They practiced sorting coins.

Jesus Time started with Jesus blessing the children. He loves little children and wants us all to come to Him just as they do. The Bible tells us, "Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me.’" Then we learned about the forgiving father. He loved his son so much that he forgave him, just like God forgives us. The Bible reminds us to, “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Our next story was about ten men with leprosy. Jesus had mercy on them and healed them, but only one returned to thank Him. We should be like the one. The Bible reminds us, “God says, ‘Call to Me and I will answer you.’” Finally, we learned about Jesus feeding the 5000. He made enough food for all of those people out of very litte; He is amazing! The Bible says, “God cares for you.”

Miss Janet brought us some lemons and limes for our Try It Tuesdays. This was one of those things that the preschoolers either really liked, or took one taste. We had great fun celebrating Valentine’s Day and we finally got a chance to play in the snow, even though there wasn’t very much. Pennies for Patients gave us a fun opportunity to bring in some change that could really make a difference. I hope each of you felt loved this Valentine’s Day and every other day of the year as well; you are loved!
