LIFE MINISTRIES

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

PSALM 139:13-16

Our Life Ministries at St. Paul's strives to be Gospel-motivated voices for Life. Through educational opportunities and providing assistance and support where we can, we work to uphold the God-given value of human life, influencing others to do the same. Some of our efforts and endeavors include:

  • Life Team: We are a recognized Life Team of Lutherans for Life. A Life Team is a congregationally based group. The Life Team becomes part of the congregation’s structure much like a mission’s team or evangelism committee. The goal is to make addressing the life issues a part of the ongoing Gospel ministry of the congregation. Our team meets at 6:30 P.M. on the first Monday of each month, and we would love to have more join us!

  • Life Sunday: Each year on Life Sunday we recognize the sanctity of human life through our worship service and special programs.

  • Educational Opportunities: The Life Team has hosted several programs to help educate about important life issues. Programs have covered topics like end-of-life issues, abortion, comfort care, and more.

  • Oil Change Event: We have hosted two different events where we provide free oil changes. Our first event served single-parents in the community, and our second served our golden members. We are grateful to Lubbers, our local car dealership for partnering with us to make the events possible!

  • Caring Boxes: We are excited to start a new outreach through our Life Ministries!  Our intention is to reach out to individuals, families, caregivers, etc. who are helping others through a life-affirming situation. We want to offer care to caregivers of all kinds, showing them that they are not alone, and that we at St. Paul's Lutheran Church care and see what they are doing. Through a simple gesture of offering a caring box of appreciation--a care package individualized for each recipient--we hope to offer support and encouragement for a role in life that can at times feel difficult, lonely, or overwhelming even among joys experienced. Members can nominate someone to receive a Caring Box.

  • Embrace Grace: At St. Paul's, we have a dedicated team of people who are ready and willing to help a young, single mom walk though an unplanned pregnancy. The goal of Embrace Grace is to provide a safe and loving place for girls to run to when they find out they are pregnant, instead of feeling like the church may be the last place they are welcomed because of shame and guilt. If the church, the Body of Christ, will join together to support these girls who choose life, young moms will be more open to not aborting their babies. Whether they keep their baby or choose adoption, Embrace Grace is a support system for them as they begin their journey of being a young mother or blessing another family with their baby. God loves these babies and these young women, and we do, too.
